Learning to drive includes understanding the car before moving off. Tyre pressure is a good example: remembering a random number is less useful than knowing how to find the correct specification.

I’m Elvis Begic from Rijschool in Maastricht. I teach calm, personal manual lessons in English and Dutch in a Volkswagen Golf. Vehicle knowledge helps connect the controls you use with the condition of the car.

Start with the manufacturer's information

The [RDW passenger-car tyre requirements](https://apk-handboek.rdw.nl/personenautos/ophanging/banden) specify correct pressure according to the vehicle manufacturer's instructions. The inspection guidance refers to the pressure table in or on the vehicle and the fitted tyre size.

Do not copy a friend's car setting or assume that all Volkswagen Golfs need one identical value. Ask your instructor to show you how the information applies to the lesson car. This article deliberately gives no universal pressure in bar.

An APK is not a reminder to wait

The RDW explanation of APK and maintenance distinguishes the legal inspection from maintenance. It advises checking tyre pressure at least every two months because tyres can lose pressure gradually.

That is a checking recommendation, not a claim that every tyre will remain safe until the next scheduled check. A suspected problem needs attention when you notice it.

Make the check understandable

During learning, ask three questions: where is the correct specification, how is the measurement taken, and what should happen if the measured value differs? Follow the vehicle instructions and ask for a demonstration before using unfamiliar equipment.

Do not treat a dashboard warning as something to hide by resetting it. Establish what it means and follow the car's instructions. If you are unsure whether driving is safe, ask for qualified assistance rather than experimenting.

Connect knowledge with real lessons

Before a lesson, identify one vehicle question you cannot yet explain. Afterwards, describe the answer in your own words. “I know where to check the specification” is a clearer learning goal than “I know everything about tyres”.

Our self-reflection guide helps you turn small observations into useful goals. Read about patient instruction if you prefer explanations with time for questions.
